Choosing Your Passenger

Choosing Your Passenger

We have been trying to switch Internet providers, and I have lost count of how many conversations I have had with that chipper automated man who exists on the other end of the 1-877 phone number. But I can assure you the sound of his voice makes my blood pressure tick up the minute I hear it. You know him, or some version of him: “Hi! This is X Y and Z! Either say or enter your account number, or if you don’t know it, say “I don’t know’.” Then you hear the pitter patter of little cyber feet before he chirps, “Great! Now let me get an idea of why you are calling. For example, if you need...

Crisis, Opportunity and YouTube

Crisis, Opportunity and YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVYgdiislUM I never expected to be creating videos as a way to connect with my clients. But I also never expected any of the things that have happened over the last year. I don’t think any of us have. The situations and places that we have all found ourselves in while learning how to navigate through a pandemic have been difficult for sure, but those difficulties also give us the option to grow and change as well. With Crisis Comes Opportunity One of the first things that I learned in my graduate program was that with crisis comes opportunity. And now as a...

Mom and Daughter Q&A

Mom and Daughter Q&A

https://youtu.be/AK_KNYutUT0   A few weeks ago my daughter Delaney asked me to take part in a 'Q&A' video for her Youtube channel. She is an Instagram Influencer and had shared enough about her unconventional upbringing that her followers were curious to know more. It was such fun interacting with the amazing community she has created, and I am so proud of and amazed by the force of good she is in this world.  Click on the photo above to watch the video and for those of you who prefer to read instead of watch, here’s a general overview of the questions Delaney’s viewers had and what...

Early Growth 2021

Early Growth 2021

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHkQskXvHo0 In case you don't want to (or can't) watch the video, below is a transcript of the words. Hi, this is Dr. Annette Childs and thanks for joining me here today at Rx for the Soul. I’m spending the afternoon out in my backyard and if you look around me, you’ll see that it isn’t a real pretty time back here. What you mostly see are bare branches and shades of brown. Not a whole lot of green, and not a whole lot of color. That’s what early growth looks like, and when you and I are leaving behind where we’ve been and pushing through to a new place in our...

The Interactive Universe

The Interactive Universe

Do you believe that we live in an interactive universe? If you don’t, I hope that life gives you reason to reconsider. I have always believed that I am surrounded by a living and responsive field of energy, and in response to my belief, my world quite often reflects this truth. Skeptics might say that my "experience of an interactive universe" is just based on confirmation bias, which is the tendency to search for, interpret, focus on and remember information in a way that confirms one's preconceptions. Well, the skeptics can keep their skepticism, and I will keep documenting the objective...

Subtle Energies

Subtle Energies

"If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration." Nikola Tesla While Tesla's words don't always find a direct route to my heart, this quote in particular does — and it's one of my favorites. For this post, the rooftop drug of choice — metaphorically speaking, of course! —  that I want to imbibe in is Subtle Energy (SE). SE is something I have been intoxicated with for most of my life, and I really learned to refine my sense of it when I began working with the dying all those years ago. Ancient and Everywhere I am not alone in my interest in...

Gate of the Year

Gate of the Year

"I said to the man who stood at the gate, 'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.' And he replied, 'Go into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.'" ― Minnie Louise Haskins This has been one of my favorite quotes for many years, but it seems more meaningful than ever as we continue to tiptoe into the first months of this new year. We live in a world so full of noise.   These days, it is hard to know what to give your attention to and what to ignore. I have always believed that truth is not...

Exploring the Voyager Grief Archetype

Exploring the Voyager Grief Archetype

This is part four of a four-part series on the grief archetypes. Read part one, Exploring the Villager Archetype, part two, Exploring the Pilgrim Archetype, and part three, Exploring the Pioneer Archetype. I created the grief archetype quiz as a tool to help my grieving clientele take their first steps into what I call the wilderness of grief. This vast landscape demands our entrance once loss pushes its way into our world. But the footpaths of those who have gone before can prove to be very helpful in our journey. It's these footpaths that we're exploring in this series. The Voyager...

Exploring the Pioneer Grief Archetype

This is part three of a four-part series on the grief archetypes. Read part one, Exploring the Villager Archetype, and part two, Exploring the Pilgrim Archetype. I created the grief archetype quiz as a tool to help my grieving clientele take their first steps into what I call the wilderness of grief - a vast, enormous landscape that demands our entrance after loss pushes its way into our world. What's important to remember about this wilderness is that its a perpetually occurring journey. It's a place that every culture, every generation, and every creature capable of love and connection has...

A Prayer for the New Year

A Prayer for the New Year

This video and prayer can be used with a New Year's burning bowl ritual.  The concept behind a burning bowl is letting go and welcoming in. The steps are simple - on one side of a piece of paper, write down all that you are letting go from the prior year. On the other side, write down all that you want to welcome in. I use flying prayer paper for this, but anything works. I also prepare a small l container of water, in which I place flower petals, and I sprinkle the water around as a symbol of being baptized into the light of a new year.  If you do not have the items for this ritual, saying...

Seasons of Light – A Ritual

Seasons of Light – A Ritual

As an adult, I have always celebrated the seasons — deeply believing that each season offers a chance to let go of what was, and a fresh slate to welcome in what is yet to be. This year, and this winter, perhaps more than ever, so many of us are feeling ready to release what has been and move forward into a new future that I thought I would share the ritual that we do in our family. Seasonal Ritual (Can be used for any season) Supplies: Pen, small pieces of paper (notecard size is what we use - larger sizes of paper pose a greater fire risk and make more smoke, so smaller is better),...

Exploring the Villager Archetype

This is part two of a four-part series on the grief archetypes. Read part one, Exploring the Pilgrim Archetype. I created the archetype quiz as a tool to help my grieving clientele take their first tenuous steps into the what I call the wilderness of grief. It's a vast and enormous landscape that demands our entrance after loss makes its sudden appearance in our world. But remember this - the wilderness may be foreign, but it's an ancient place that every culture, generation, and creature capable of love and connection has wandered in before. And anyone who has journeyed here has left a path...
